Product Review: DEWALT DWFP12231 Pneumatic 18-Gauge 2-Inch Brad Nailer Kit

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Upgrades and Longer Warranty

Easy to load, light and easy to handle. It was a delight to use on molding for my remodel. No holding pieces with my head while I grabbed hammer and nail; no setting the nails after; no hammer marks marring the surface.  The warranty for this 18 gauge Dewalt Brad nailer is now 7 years compared to 3 years for the previous model which I think is great.  Other enhancements are the Precision Point tip, better tool-less jam release mechanism, swivel quick connection (at least on mine noticed product picture has standard straight connector), ruler on magazine and even a pencil sharpener on the belt hook. As an added benefit the DWFP12233 can also handle slightly larger brads, 2-1/8" vs 2" for the previous model. Dewalt took a great brad nailer and made it better.  Having a ruler on the magazine is really nice for getting nails spaced evenly. The outer body of the magazine feels like metal but the sliding part is mostly plastic except for the mechanical parts.

The smaller tip makes it easier to put the nail exactly where you want it on smaller trim, which is what you'll be using this on most of the time. Since you don't have to press the tip in hard to enable the trigger it won't mar the surface either. The first time I used a nailer with this type of tip I was just blown away by how well it works and how much more control you have over nail placement to make sure the nail goes where you want it so you don't wind up splitting delicate trim.  The main body of the tool is magnesium which keeps it light. It's well-balanced and the oil free design requires little maintenance. A hard case provides safe storage in between uses.  No jams, no heads sticking up and no double taps even when just rapidly bumping it to see how fast it would go. Worked great in single fire or continuous, bump firing modes. Overall I am very pleased with how well this works.
