Makita quality at an attractive price
For the price this is a very impressive and powerful grinder with good torque. The kit comes with 3 hard wheels,1 diamond wheel, multi position handle and wheel guard, all in a nice aluminum case. Some of the reviews imply that this is a variable speed tool but the grinder is single speed 7.5AMP motor up to 10,000 rpm and weighs ~5 lbs. I have used it to sharpen lawn mower, snow blower blades and some ductwork trimming, it did a really nice quick job. Then like any other new toy I have picked up a few other projects around to justify the purchase including grinding/chasing some cracks in my driveway and garage but understand this tool is really designed to be used on metal. As a friendly word of caution definitely be vigilant about wearing eye protection as this tool does create quite the light show and can easily kick out debris.

The paddle switch I can go either
way on and is the only reason I am knocking off a star. It is comfortable and the paddle-switch
operation (dead-man's) has a lock-off and it can lock-on with a push button
near base of paddle. It runs the length
of the tool and anytime you let go the tool is going to stop. It has a small
latch, positioned in the middle that must be flipped before the paddle switch
turns the tool on. This does take a little time to get used too but after a few
uses it’s not band and does prevent the tool from turning on accidentally. If you’re looking for a slide switch, the
closest model number would be Makita 9557NBX.
I have really enjoyed using a quality constructed grinder that feels
built to last.
